Using Office 365 Email

Microsoft have announced that from October 13th 2020 they are retiring Basic Authentication for IMAP in Office 365. This means that Converse (and older versions of Liberty Contact Centre) will not be able to connect to O365 mailboxes.

We’re looking to make a change to the software to support O365 after this date; please get in touch if you are affected.

Thanks
Sam.

Microsoft have just announced an update; see https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/exchange-team-blog/basic-auth-and-exchange-online-february-2020-update/ba-p/1191282.

It confirms that Microsoft plan to enforce Modern Auth and retire Basic Auth for IMAP from October 2020. As such, we will be looking to support this authentication method in a future version of Converse. Dates will be confirmed once Microsoft have announced when they will be rolling out the change. Older versions of Liberty will not support this change; please contact your account manager for details on how to upgrade to Converse if this affects you.

Converse v5.2 adds support for Modern Auth for IMAP on Office 365.

Note however that Microsoft have announced they are delaying their plans to retire Basic Auth until 2021. See https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/exchange-team-blog/basic-authentication-and-exchange-online-april-2020-update/ba-p/1275508 for further details.

You can still upgrade to v5.2 now and improve the security on your O365 account by disabling Basic Auth. Contact us for details.

As previously commented, Microsoft are ending support for Basic Auth for IMAP in Office 365 on 1st October 2022.

To continue handling emails into your contact centre after this time, you will need to ensure the following steps have been taken:

  • You are running Liberty Converse 5.2 or above
  • Configure an App Registration in your 365 tenant to that will enable Converse to authentication via OAuth 2.0
  • Update your Inbound Email settings in Converse to use OAuth 2.0

For instructions on setting up OAuth 2.0 with Liberty Converse, please refer to the online help article or contact Netcall Support for further advice.
